30 Day Song Challenge: Day 18

A song that I wish I heard on the radio

Casimir Pulaski Day by Sufjan Stevens. From the album Illinoise.

Its not just this song I wish i heard on the radio more; its the whole album, which is outstanding! If I had a top 5 albums (a possibility for after the 30 day song challenge perhaps) this would definitely feature.

Sufjan writes such amazing music. For me Casimir Pulaski Day is one of his most beautiful songs. If you’ve ever watched the movie A Walk to Remember chances are this will remind you of that. It tells a very similar story. For those of you who question my masculinity after admitting to seeing this movie you can calm the farm, I watched it with 4 girls. When you’re 16 and 4 girls want to watch a movie with you, you don’t complain about the title you just watch (as the lovey goop spews forth from the TV onto the floor).

Anyway, listen to the lyrics – they are easy to discern and they paint a really clear picture. A guy loses his girlfriend and then is left asking God why such a thing could be allowed to happen. This is a very sensible question, people shouldn’t feel bad asking this sort of thing. For a christian explanation I can refer you to the book of Job, which I will go off and read so I can find an answer as well. Anyway I say this kind of question is important because blind faith is dangerous and I don’t support it, and also – challenging your faith is a good way to help grow it!

I’m going to leave it at that for now because I just finished watching a really long stage of the tour and I’m stuffed. But you should all buy this album, you will not regret it.
