30 Day Song Challenge: Day 7

A Song that reminds me of a certain event

Calvary by Crooked Still. From the album Some Strange Country.

This song is amazing for me purely for its instrumental components. It presents to the listener an array of insane banjo; angsty cello and beautiful violin* melodies. But the best thing about this song is that every time I hear it I remember Andy and Lara’s wedding.

For those of you who don’t know, Andy and Lara are close friends who I’ve known for years. Last November they got married and I had the honour of being one of the groomsmen. The morning of the wedding Andy, James, Stu and I were getting ready at the home of a some much loved friends of ours in South Hobart. The house is stunning; beautifully decorated, relaxing and serene. Our friends took great care of us, feeding us,making sure we didn’t look scruffy and making sure we were ready in proper time. The whole time we were getting ready – this song and the rest of the album were playing in the background.

As the day progressed and we made our way to the venue of the ceremony, this song played on repeat through my head. It turned out to be one of the happiest and fun-filled days of my life. The ceremony was massive and the weather was perfect. Photos were heaps of fun and looked amazing thanks to the awesome photographer! The reception was the biggest party ever! So much good food, so much good beer and wine, so much good music, so much good dancing and so many amazing friends!

*NOTE: may be viola, I can’t tell the difference.
