A song that reminds me of somewhere
Crystalised by the xx, From their self-titled debut album.
This song is great. From the out of tune melodies, to the casual - bordering on lazy singing style this song and the album, are for me, something refreshing and special. The first time I heard this song was at a house up in West Hobart that Andy (a close friend and former housemate of mine) was house sitting. He house-sat this place for about two months. I must have been there almost 5 or 6 days a week hanging with him and Lara (another friend and Andy’s then fiance) or whoever else happened to be around. Anyway, Andy had just gotten the CD so we spent a few days listening to it.
This house was really special as it provided heaps of opportunities to spend quality time with close friends; not only Andy and Lara, but the guys from our bible study and friends from Launceston. And it wasn’t just sitting around; it was sharing dinner out on the balcony (which had a view over the whole city) sitting in the lounge for a D & M, nerding it up on the xbox, playing board games and relaxing with a glass of wine and/or beer. So now this song and place are inseparable for me – I can’t go near there without thinking of this song and I can’t listen to this song without thinking about that place.
