30 Day song Challenge: Day 1

Dear everyone,
I will be doing the 30 day song challenge. I will pick one song every day that corresponds to this list. As I go through I’ll explain a bit about why I have chosen the song and maybe give a bit of a spiel about how I came across it. That’s enough intro – its time to get schooled!

My Favourite Song

I think this question is really unfair as I have so many favourites , but as I can only pick one – I’m choosing this.

I love this song for a few reasons. The first is that the music is equally if not more illustrative than the lyrics. It  builds and ebbs; the beginning is so serene and calming but as the music builds I find my heart starting to beat faster and faster until the tension is broken. A minute later a moment of frustration takes hold and the intensity builds again only to fall back into a calm resolution to continue pursuing love.

The second reason is the way this song is driven by the bass. For me it is a focal point of the music, like the women in the song has the absolute focus of the writer. The other instruments compliment this amazingly: the drums, guitar and piano seem to paint a picture of life passing by with little significance – but this slowly changes as they build to an unbearable intensity.

I also love easy to identify with the yearning the writer feels. Some people say its a bit creepy, that the dude is a total stalker, but the truth is people feel this way all the time. Having said that there are boundaries that apply in such cases but that discussion is beyond the scope of this post (feel free to discuss this in the comment section though!).
